Keeping Your Little Village Smiling...

February is National Children's Dental Health Month!

At Village Pediatric Dentistry, we’re excited to celebrate National Children's Dental Health Month (NCDHM) every February! This national health observance, brought to you by the American Dental Association (ADA), highlights the importance of good oral health for children and helps families build healthy habits that last a lifetime.

Why Children's Dental Health Matters

A healthy smile starts early! Developing strong oral hygiene routines from a young age helps prevent cavities, gum disease, and other dental issues. Good dental health also supports overall well-being, as oral health is closely linked to heart health, nutrition, and self-confidence.

Tips for a Healthy Smile

Here are some tips from Dr. Laura to keep your child's teeth and gums healthy:

  • Brush twice a day – Use fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush to clean all surfaces of the teeth.

  • Floss daily – Help your child floss between teeth to remove plaque and prevent cavities.

  • Eat a tooth-friendly diet – Limit sugary snacks and drinks, and encourage nutritious foods like fruits, veggies, and dairy.

  • Visit the us regularly – Routine check-ups and cleanings are essential for maintaining healthy teeth and catching problems early.

  • Drink plenty of water – Water helps rinse away food particles and keeps the mouth hydrated.

Fun Ways to Celebrate

Make Children’s Dental Health Month a fun activity at home for your family to help encourage good habits.

  • Make brushing fun – Let your child pick out their own toothbrush and toothpaste and use a timer or a fun song to encourage two-minute brushing.

  • Print off and color one of these coloring sheets – Brushing Fights Cavities, Bruh or In My Brushing Era!

  • Read books about oral health – Stories about visiting the dentist can help ease any anxiety and make dental visits more exciting. Ask your favorite librarian for help!

  • Keep track of healthy habits with a monthly brushing calendar!
