Keeping Your Little Village Smiling...

preventive dentistry

At Village Pediatric Dentistry, we strongly believe in the importance of preventative care.   We know that parenting is difficult and want you to know that this is a judgement free zone.  Below are some helpful tips to help keep your little one's mouth healthy:

  • Avoid allowing your child to graze on carbohydrate filled snacks, as they fuel bacteria and plaque increasing risk for cavities.  Alternative snack ideas includes fresh fruits, vegetables, cheese sticks or nuts.

  • Avoid allowing your child to sip on sugary beverages (yes, even milk has sugar!) between meals and throughout the day. Water is best between meals and reserve 1 cup of milk for meal time.

  • Begin brushing as early as your child's first tooth comes in.   Routine and early introduction will make all the difference. This routine is often easier said, than done, especially once you have a wild and opinionated toddler on your hands.  Be sure to ask us for tips and tricks when you are in the office.

  • Establish routine dental visits for your child no later than the age of one.  The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommend early establishment of a dental home.

  • We also offer many preventative procedures in the office, we will be sure to discuss these with you at your child's visit and don't hesitate to ask questions. Some of these procedures include:

  • Fluoride treatments
  • Dental sealants
  • Sports mouthguards and night guards
  • Digital x-rays
